Genesis began singing at the age of 5. After watching her mother lead the worship team at church, Genesis eventually followed in the same footsteps. She grew up listening to Christian gospel music and attributes her singing style to listening to gospel artists over the years. Her favorite artists included Crystal Lewis, Jaci Velasquez, and Whitney Houston, among others.
